A shop-floor traveler is the copy that lives next to the chips. Thin paper, black ink, a pocket if you have one. The office can keep the pretty screen.
Write for gloves
Step numbers large enough to see. Work center is a place a person can walk to. Spec is one line. Notes are one sentence. If a field only makes sense to scheduling, leave it off the floor copy.
Shift change is the test
The incoming operator should read the last signed step and the next open one. If they have to ask who ran the mill, the packet failed. That is the same discipline as a shop traveler, said from the aisle instead of the office.
